Since all but 2 students were absent from French 2 today, we decided to watch part of Madagascar in French instead of continuing with our unit and also talked about animals and the sounds they make in other languages. We learned, for example, that in english, we teach our children that the sound a turkey makes is "gobble, gobble", but in French a turkey says "glou, glou".
For those of you wondering, we will continue as a class where we left off on Wednesday.
**NOTE: As we have been learning about ordinal numbers it has become clear that we all need a good refresher on regular numbers in French so the Unit 6 test will include a section on numbers 1-100. If you need help remembering or pronouncing your numbers check out the resources below.
Today in class we will be:
1. Ordering numbers 1-100
2. Creating 5 mathematics problems using new vocabulary
= égale, font, ça fait
+ plus, et
- Moins
x Multiplié par, fois
/ Divisé par, Sur
3. Playing the card game 99 (taught to me by a student).
The Goal: to get to 99 but not over & to try to get others to go over 99
The play: Each person gets 4 cards. Players take turns laying down a card and drawing a new card to replace it. As a person lays down their card they must say the number that their card and the previous ones add up to. If you forget to pick up a card after you lay down you are out of luck and won't be able to recover it. The first person who goes over 99 gets a letter of a word like (FRENCH), so they get an F and a new round is dealt. The first person to spell out the entire word loses and the others continue until there is one person remaining who is then the winner
Some of the cards have special roles:
Ace= 1 ou 11
4= à l'envers (reverse)
9= la même (same/0)
10= moins 10 (less 10)
K= Continue à 99 (straight to 99)
| Need a refresher with your numbers? Check out the website: Language Guide. You'll see a chart of all the numbers. When you put the cursor over the number you'll hear how it's pronounced and how to spell it.. You can also test your self by clicking on options and choosing listening quiz.. You can also download the image below as a quick reference for yourself |
Today is the beginning of Unit 6. We will be learning about the geography of France and how it is divided up: into regions and then departments and finally into cities & villages known as Communes. Today we will begin learning about France's largest and most well known city: Paris
The goal:
We are working towards a research project where students will research a particular region in France & put together resources for a presentation.
Why:
We are focusing on France and it's geography this year partly as a way to begin planning for a potential Trip to France. Students want to travel next year and I think next May Term would be the perfect time to go! We have a very long way to go before this can happen with lots of pieces of the puzzle to get in place (board approval, funding, planning, etc... ) but hopefully this will bring us one step closer.
1. Quel activity. Make sure you have a specific reason WHY you chose each answer that you can explain to the class
2. Fill in the blank Pouvoir activity
3. What types of activities can a family do on the internet? (use your sample letter from the other day to help jump start your ideas of activities a person can/cannot do on the internet)
students should make active use of the verb Pouvoir (to be able to).
4. Les Stations dans le Detail: study the list of activities available and unavailable. Then answer the questions on the backside using complete sentences and the verb Pouvoir
