**NOTE:  As we have been learning about ordinal numbers it has become clear that we all need a good refresher on regular numbers in French so the Unit 6 test will include a section on numbers 1-100.  If you need help remembering or pronouncing your numbers check out the resources below.

Today in class we will be:
1. Ordering numbers 1-100

2. Creating 5 mathematics problems using new vocabulary
= égale, font, ça fait
+ plus, et
- Moins
x Multiplié par, fois
/ Divisé par, Sur

3. Playing the card game 99 (taught to me by a student).
The Goal: to get to 99 but not over & to try to get others to go over 99
The play: Each person gets 4 cards.  Players take turns laying down a card and drawing a new card to replace it. As a person lays down their card they must say the number that their card and the previous ones add up to.  If you forget to pick up a card after you lay down you are out of luck and won't be able to recover it.  The first person who goes over 99 gets a letter of a word like (FRENCH), so they get an F and a new round is dealt.  The first person to spell out the entire word loses and the others continue until there is one person remaining who is then the winner
Some of the cards have special roles:
Ace= 1 ou 11
4= à l'envers (reverse)
9= la même (same/0)
10= moins 10 (less 10)
K= Continue à 99 (straight to 99)

Today we reviewed continued reviewing ordinal numbers, talked about rules for pronunciation & departments in France:

We read through the document Les Départements en France and responded to the comprehension questions.

Afterwards, we used the Kindles to do research to discover how department & city codes appear on license plates and on the envelopes of letters for the city and responded to questions on the document: Les Codes du Département et de la Ville d'Aulnay-sous-Bois

Homework: to complete reading , comprehension questions or online activity begun during class

3. Afterwards we will spend some time reading and responding to questions about Communes (Click to download wkst) in France

Today is the beginning of Unit 6.  We will be learning about the geography of France and how it is divided up: into regions and then departments and finally into cities & villages known as Communes. Today we will begin learning about France's largest and most well known city: Paris

The goal:
We are working towards a research project where students will research a particular region in France & put together resources for a presentation.

Why:
We are focusing on France and it's geography this year partly as a way to begin planning for a potential Trip to France.  Students want to travel next year and I think next May Term would be the perfect time to go!  We have a very long way to go before this can happen with lots of pieces of the puzzle to get in place (board approval, funding, planning, etc... ) but hopefully this will bring us one step closer.

Unfortunately too many students have been unprepared as of late, so today many students worked on making up their Unit 5 Tests.  Today was also oral presentation day for French 2 students, where they had to present their unit 5 oral presentations in front of the class while I and several of their classmates graded their performance.

After completing as much business as possible in class, students then had time to learn about Mardi Gras or "Fat Tuesday" in English.  Those who had completed their tests were given the opportunity to complete a Mardi Gras Mask

Today we will be wrapping up Unit 5 and preparing for the Unit Exam on Friday

1. Students will complete a short boardwork activity helping them review the verb: Devoir

2.. Unit 5 Challenge: Students will get their rough drafts peer-edited & will have time to practice with any classmates needed to help with their presentation.  Presentations will be given in class on Friday before the test.  (This grade will be the oral assessment for the unit.)

3. Possessive Adjectives Worksheet: students will complete a worksheet on possessive adjectives

4. Unit 5 Tic Tac Toe Review: Students will use this time to complete 3 review activities to help them prepare for their exam on friday.  Any activities unfinished in class will become homework

Today we will be reviewing Possessive Adjectives:
mon, ma, mes, ton, ta, tes, son, sa, ses, leur, leurs, votre, vos, notre, nos

1. We completed a fill-in-the blank Activity

2. Watched 2 videos of a French speaker and responded to some questions about the interviews
If you missed class, you can complete this activity by downloading the worksheet and watching: Video 1 AND Video 2

3. Play a Possessive Adjective review game.  Students can also access a similar game to the one we played in class online at http://jeudeloie.free.fr/debutant/poss/oie.html

Homework: a Rough draft of Unit 5 Challenge.  An oral assessment on vouloir, pouvoir, devoir, quel/quelle/quels/quelles and possessive adjectives
